Primary Care Overview

In our 12, 28 and 42 day Primary Care programs, clients are immersed in recovery-themed programming which includes individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational seminars, relapse prevention skills, weekly Family Programming, yoga, mindfulness, music and art therapy classes.

Each client is assigned an Addictions Counsellor and a Recovery Coach. Their Counsellor will provide one-on-one therapy throughout their stay, and their designated Recovery Coach will help them understand and begin to work through the 12 Steps.

Detox

Alcohol and opioid withdrawal can be challenging and is often accompanied by physical and psychological symptoms, which can deter individuals from seeking treatment. Medically assisted detox offers a safer and more comfortable way to manage these symptoms, reducing the likelihood of complications and improving the chances of successful recovery.

Art Therapy

The Canadian Art Therapy Association defines art therapy as a combination of the creative process and psychotherapy – a non-verbal way to facilitate self-exploration and understanding. Art therapy provides an opportunity to express difficult to articulate thoughts and feelings. It has stabilizing effects including distress reduction, increased self-awareness and the creation of new thought and behaviour patterns. Research studies confirm that art practice increases resiliency and contributes to psychological flexibility. Art therapy impacts the physical body in positive ways as well by normalizing heart rate, blood pressure and cortisol levels.

Music Therapy

Music therapy offers a powerful and accessible way to explore emotions, build connection, and support the recovery process. Guided by a trained facilitator, these sessions use music as a therapeutic tool rather than a performance, creating a safe and supportive environment for self-expression.

Nature Walks

Walks vary each week and may include peaceful loops around one of the island’s lakes, forest hikes beneath the canopy, or unstructured time on the beach to reflect, breathe, and reset. The focus is not on speed or distance, but on presence, observation, and gentle movement.

ART
therapy

Therapeutic art making is all about the process not the finished piece of work. You do not have to be creative or “good at art” to explore your emotions through drawing and colouring, collage and construction. The practice of making art is similar to meditation and mindfulness. Trying something new by venturing outside your comfort zone increases your capacity to cope with the stresses of early recovery. Plus, it can be fun…
