| Addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is a process that heals mind, body and spirit. Accordingly, The Orchard provides treatment through medical, psychological, spiritual and holistic means in order to treat the whole person.
A spectrum of holistic practices are incorporated at The Orchard Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, including spirituality, physical fitness, yoga and Qigong.
Shelagh MacKinnon facilitates the exploration of spirituality and related topics at The Orchard and is a source of wisdom and humor. She has been providing spiritual advice and support to individuals in recovery since 1980.
For physical fitness, The Orchard has a fully equipped gym and when weather permits, clients can hike a series of picturesque trails and make use of the outdoor pool. Personal training sessions with a clinical exercise specialist are available by appointment and billed as extra services.
Clients discover the benefits of deep relaxation, stretching, strengthening and breathing through weekly yoga classes and guided meditation. Each weekday morning they may take part in Qigong, an ancient Chinese practice for cultivating and developing one's energy and vitality. The gentle stretching, breathing, self-massage, meditation and graceful movements of Qigong enhance spiritual wholeness and can alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal.
Other features of The Orchard's programming include art therapy, poetry, music and frequent guest speakers. |
