Your First Day At Orchard Recovery Center
Dear Client,
We know that arriving at The Orchard is a big step, and we want you to feel supported and cared for from the very first moment. Here’s what you can expect on your first day with us:
Your journey begins with your arrival on Bowen Island. You may be driven directly to our facility by family or friends, or, if you walk onto the ferry, one of our team members will be waiting to greet you on the Bowen side and bring you to The Orchard.
When you arrive, you will first meet with one of our addiction specialists. Together, you will review your medical history and begin preparing a personalized medical care plan. This plan is designed for your safety and well-being and will be closely monitored and adjusted as you settle in.
Next, you’ll meet with our intake coordinator. They will take some time with you to collect important information, go over intake documents, and provide you with your Orchard bag, which includes your binder, workbook, and reading material to support your recovery journey.
You’ll then be given a tour of our administration building and introduced to your buddy, another client who will help you get oriented, show you where to find essentials such as client phones and program sign-up sheets, and answer everyday questions.
On your first day, you are not expected to attend programming. Instead, you’ll be encouraged to read through the client handbook and begin your personal history booklet, which will later be shared with your dedicated counsellor. If you are entering detox when you arrive, we understand that you may need a few days to rest before beginning this work. During this time, you are welcome to spend as much time as you need in our Healing Room, a quiet, comfortable space with cots and couches designed for rest and recovery. Our nursing team will be by your side to help guide you through this important stage and offer support for your physical needs.
Lunch and dinner will both be served at the administration building. After dinner, you’ll be driven to your residence, where your bags will already be waiting in your room so you can settle in right away.
In the evening, we hold a 7:00 pm AA/NA meeting. If you feel ready, you are invited to join. If not, you are welcome to continue resting. Please know that support staff are always present, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist you with anything you need.
After the meeting, there is free time until curfew (11:00 pm) and an evening snack is provided daily around 9:00 pm.
We look forward to walking alongside you on this journey of healing.
With care,>
The Orchard Recovery Team
