"Emerging From Dusk"
How do "you" fall, where did you land
What height was achieved in your misguided ascent
Did you come back to earth as a thud or a whisper
Only gravity felt the impression you made
Living your existence inside of a box
Was darkness a comfort of did you find light in this shadows embrace?
Pressure... One wall falls. Another topples. Only two left.
They cave in as one when support leaves their side
Now unguarded in sunlight, naked and torn
Real life scorches my soul
And there is no more
The Orchard's Recovery Read of the Month
 | This month, the Orchard is reading Moments of Clarity by Christopher Kennedy Lawford. This novel is a collection of memoirs about the struggles of addiction and recovery. It begins with Lawford's own memoir, "Symptoms of Withdrawal" which describes him at seventeen years clean, still fighting for his life against his addiction. Following Lawford's story are a collection of other stories about substance abuse. With such a vast collection of stories, everyone will enjoy this recovery read.
About The Author: Christopher Kennedy Lawford was seventeen years sober when he wrote his memoir "Symptoms of Withdrawal". After separating from his family, as he was about to begin his treatment for Hepatitis C, Lawford found himself at the lowest point in his life since being in active addiction. The novel captures the struggle through his family and health problems- the act of writing in turn helped him through this difficult time.

Memory in a cup
 | The next time you are experiencing "brain fog" brew yourself a refreshing glass of iced green tea. It is a cognitive boosting brew and our #1 choice for a cold drink.
Neuroscientists aren't exactly sure why green tea is so good for your brain, but it may have something to do with the extra L-theanine. This compound seems to jump start the areas of the brain responsible for attention and memory. And who couldn't use more of these?
Make sure you brew your own, though. Commercial ice teas don't seem to produce the same benefit.
You get one brain, be kind to it.

How Alcohol Affects the Human Body

10-day Introduction to Recovery
The Orchard's 10-day Introduction to Recovery provides clients with a glimpse of what living clean and sober looks and feels like. Over the course of 10 days, they are introduced to the 12 Steps and participate in group and individual therapy. At the end of this process, most clients see the benefits of enrolling in a full Primary Care Program.
The program is also designed to offer people in various stages of recovery an opportunity to refresh their experience as it is common to feel that there is something missing or less satisfying in their personal recovery. We provide a safe, supportive environment to explore various issues. Through lectures, small group sessions and various complementary therapies, we will help participants reinvent their recovery experience into something that is dynamic and vibrant.
Big Book Passage of the Month:
He may not see at once that he has barely scratched a limitless lode which will pay dividends only if he mines it for the rest of his life and insists on giving away the entire product. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, pp. 128-29
12 and 12 Passage of the Month:
Make me a channel of thy peace - that where there is hatred, I may bring love - that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness - that where there is discord, I may bring harmony - that where there is error, I may bring truth - that where there is doubt, I may bring faith - that where there is despair, I may bring hope - that where there are shadows, I may bring light - that where there is sadness, I may bring joy. Grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted - to understand, than to be understood - to love, than to be loved. For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life. (p. 99 12&12)
