Building on the momentum of the Canadian premiere in 2011, Orchard Recovery Center proudly presented the Second Annual REEL Recovery Film Festival on October 19-20, 2012 at Vancouver's ultimate private screening venue, District 319.
Now in its fourth year, the festival that began in Los Angeles and is expanding to many major US cities, focuses on the hope in recovery from addiction.
The Orchard's own Quintin Anthony hosted the opening night gala, bringing smiles and laughter to the audience made up of healing professionals, people in recovery, friends and the curious.
After an hour of mingling and enjoying the fabulous food prepared by Culinary Capers, local hero Joe Calendino took the stage, sharing his story of recovery and giving proof that the Lower Mainland's youth have been helped by his program, "Yo Bro Initiative."
Next up was the "Anonymous People" Producer Greg Williams presenting a special trailer from his upcoming movie and discussing the growing Recovery Advocacy Movement that began in the U.S. and is now gaining momentum in Canada with the Recovery Day events of 2012.
On Saturday, six full length features and the short film "Spare Change" by Orchard alumni Steve H. were screened. These included: Unguarded, Lipstick and Liquor, Beauty Mark, Lost in Woonsocket, The Secret World of Recovery and the Vancouver premiere of the new biography about AA's co-founder "Bill W." In between films, local recovery advocates shared their experience strength and hope.
